How can Reiki help my animal?

Reiki can help to reduce stress and helps to create deep relaxation. This can be particularly effective with animals who are unwell, have suffered abuse or trauma, have trust issues or for ageing animals. Reiki is not about about ‘curing’ an animal that is ill but helps to create a deep relaxation which in turn helps to allow the body to heal its self.

Reiki can also be offered to help a dying animal by calming them and helping them with their transition into the spirit world when the time comes.

What happens during a animal reiki treatment?

Animals are very sensitive and open to the energies of Reiki are normally quite happy to offer themselves to the treatment of laying the hands on and horse For animals that are traumatised or very fearful, sessions can be given from a distance to build the trust of the animal first. The animal will choose how he/she wishes to have a treatment. Reiki works by calming the animal to allow natural healing to take place. This can be of a physical or emotional nature. You must gain consent from your Vet before your pet receives Reiki. This is done by simply contacting your Veterinary Practice and asking for approval that your animal can receive Reiki.

Reiki is not intended to replace or act as an alternative to conventional treatments given by a Vet. The Veterinary Surgery Act of 1966 (amended 1996) prohibits anyone other than a Veterinary Surgeon to diagnose ailments and giving of advice on such diagnosis. The Protection of Animals Act 1911 requires that if an animal clearly needs treatment from a Veterinary Surgeon then the owner must obtain this.

The healing of animals by contact healing, by the laying on of hands or distant healing is legal. To give emergency first aid to animals for the purpose of saving life or relieving pain is permissible under the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1996.
